Hammer meets chisel. A jackhammer combines a hammer and a chisel into one incredible tool that can pulverize the toughest materials like rock, concrete, and pavement.

Powered by air or electricity. Most handheld jackhammers use compressed air (pneumatic power) to create their smashing force, though some run on electric motors or hydraulics.

Invented for heavy work. William McReavy invented the jackhammer and sold the patent to Charles Brady King, who helped make it a game-changer for construction projects.

Vibration does the work. The tool vibrates thousands of times per second, hitting the surface with such speed and force that it breaks apart even the hardest materials without needing much strength from the operator.

Many sizes exist. While workers carry smaller jackhammers by hand, giant versions are bolted onto construction machinery and powered by hydraulics to tackle the biggest demolition jobs.
