Cool Facts
Ribbon-shaped pasta. Linguine has an elliptical (oval-ish) shape rather than being completely flat like fettuccine. It's about 4 millimetres wide, making it the perfect middle ground between thin spaghetti and wider fettuccine.
Italian origin. Linguine comes from Italy and the name means 'little tongues' in Italian, which makes sense because the pasta looks like tiny flat tongues when you look at it closely.
Pesto perfection. Linguine was traditionally paired with pesto, a green sauce made from basil, garlic, nuts, and olive oil. The pasta's flat shape is great for catching sauce.
Versatile sauce mate. While pesto is traditional, linguine also pairs wonderfully with tomato-based sauces and fish-based sauces, making it super flexible for different meals.
