Cool Facts
Engine of the train. A locomotive is the vehicle that provides all the power to move a train. It's like the heart of the whole operation, pumping energy to drag or push heavy cars full of people and things down the rails.
Pulling from the front. For a very long time, locomotives always pulled trains from the front, just like a horse pulling a cart. This was the traditional way trains worked.
Push and pull tactics. Modern trains sometimes use push-pull operation, where a locomotive can both pull and push the train to move it more efficiently. This gives train operators more flexibility and control.
Power spread throughout. For really long and heavy freight trains, companies now place multiple locomotives at different points along the entire train. One main locomotive at the front controls all of them, working together like a coordinated team to move massive loads.
