Dinosaur-Age Survivor. Longnose gars have been around for about 100 million years, which means they were swimming in rivers and lakes when dinosaurs still walked the Earth.

Super Long Snout. Their name comes from their extremely long, narrow nose packed with sharp teeth, perfect for snapping up smaller fish to eat.

Primitive Features, Modern Fish. Though gars have some old-fashioned body parts like a spiral valve intestine, they are fully developed fish, not stuck in the past like their super distant ancestors.
