Lotus Temple

Shaped like a lotus. The Lotus Temple in New Delhi looks like a giant marble lotus flower blooming in the city. It has 27 separate white marble petals arranged in nine groups of three, creating a breathtaking design that's instantly recognizable.

Nine sides, nine doors. The building has nine sides with nine doors that open into a central hall. This number is special in Baháʼí symbolism, representing completeness and unity.

Open to everyone. Unlike many religious buildings that only welcome certain people, the Lotus Temple invites everyone inside, no matter what religion you follow or where you're from. It's a place designed for all people to come together.

Won major awards. Since it was finished in December 1986, the Lotus Temple has won numerous architectural awards around the world. Newspapers and magazines have featured it many times because of its stunning beauty and unique design.

Massive central hall. Inside, the main prayer hall is over 34 meters tall (that's taller than a nine-story building) and can hold 1,300 people sitting together.
