Circular pectoral fins. Lumpsuckers have round, fan-like fins on the sides of their bodies. The name Cyclopteridae comes from Greek words meaning 'circle' and 'fin' because these fins look like perfect circles.

Frozen ocean homes. These fish live in the coldest parts of the world's oceans. You'll find them in the Arctic waters and the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans where the water is icy cold.

Bumpy, lumpy bodies. Lumpsuckers got their nickname because their bodies look like lumpy, bumpy potatoes. They're not sleek like most fish, but their odd shape helps them thrive in their chilly habitats.

Most live in the Pacific. While lumpsuckers live in cold oceans all around the Arctic region, the North Pacific Ocean has the most species of them. Scientists have found more varieties there than anywhere else.
