Nursing skills passed down. Mary learned nursing and healing from her mother in Jamaica, who used traditional remedies and knowledge to care for people in their community. These skills helped her help others her whole life.

Traveled to help soldiers. During the Crimean War, Mary went all the way to Turkey to care for injured soldiers. She didn't wait for permission but went because she knew she could make a real difference.

Wrote her own story. Mary published her autobiography called "Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands," which was one of the first books written by a Black woman in Britain. It told her adventures and showed the world who she really was.

Never gave up. Mary faced many challenges because of racism and because nursing wasn't always seen as work for women like her. But she kept going and proved what she was capable of doing.
