Tove Jansson

Born into art. Tove's mother was an illustrator and stamp designer, and her father was a sculptor, so she grew up surrounded by creative people making beautiful things.

Studied across Europe. From 1930 to 1938, she learned art in three different cities: Helsinki, Stockholm, and Paris, soaking up ideas from all over Europe.

Writer and artist both. She didn't just pick one talent. Tove wrote short stories and articles while also creating illustrations for books, advertisements, and postcards, blending words and pictures together.

First exhibition at 30. In 1943, she held her very first solo art exhibition, showing that her paintings were ready for the world to see.

Creative for life. Tove never stopped making art and writing stories. She continued creating new works all through her life, always exploring fresh ideas.
