Europe's Largest City. Moscow is the biggest city entirely in Europe, with more than 13 million people living inside the city limits alone. When you count the whole area around it, there are over 21 million people.

Built on a River. Moscow sits on the Moskva River right in the middle of Russia. The river has been important to the city since it was founded, helping people travel and trade.

Massive Urban Spread. Moscow covers about 2,511 square kilometers, which is huge. That makes it the largest city by land area on the European continent.

Metropolitan Monster. The greater Moscow area spreads over 26,000 square kilometers with millions more people living in nearby towns and villages. This makes it one of the world's most populated metropolitan areas.
