Super-fast bikes. Motorcycle land-speed records are set by specially-built machines designed purely for going incredibly fast, not by the motorcycles you'd see on regular roads.

Two-way racing. To set an official record, riders must make two passes in opposite directions on a measured course on the same day, and the record is the average of both speeds.

Started at Daytona. The first official motorcycle land-speed record was set in 1920 when Gene Walker rode an Indian motorcycle at 104.12 mph on Daytona Beach in Florida.

Record-breaking team. Since 2010, the Ack Attack team has held the world record at an astounding 376.36 mph (605.69 kilometers per hour), which is faster than most race cars!
