Painted on permanent surfaces. Murals are artworks created directly on walls, ceilings, or other surfaces that don't move. This makes them different from paintings on canvas because they become part of the building itself.

Many different techniques. Artists create murals using several methods, including fresco (painting on wet plaster), mosaic (arranging colored tiles or stones), graffiti (spray-painted designs), and marouflage (gluing canvas or paper onto walls).

Ancient and modern art. Murals have been created for thousands of years. Ancient Romans painted frescoes on their homes, and today murals brighten up buildings in cities all around the world.

Community and public spaces. Many murals appear in public places like streets, parks, and building sides where everyone can enjoy them for free. They can tell stories, celebrate cultures, or simply make neighborhoods more beautiful.

Lasts a really long time. Because murals are part of the actual wall or surface, they stick around much longer than paintings on canvas. Some murals have survived for hundreds of years.
