One-Handed God. Týr gave up his right hand when he bravely offered it as a pledge to bind the monstrous wolf Fenrir. When Fenrir realized the gods weren't going to let him go free, he bit off Týr's hand as payback.

The Wolf Fenrir. Fenrir was a gigantic, dangerous wolf that the gods feared would destroy everything. Týr's sacrifice helped the gods keep this fearsome beast under control so it couldn't harm the world.

End Times Hero. Norse people believed that one day the world would end in a catastrophic event called Ragnarök. During Ragnarök, Týr is said to face and be consumed by Garmr, a monstrous dog guarding the gates of the underworld.

Member of the Æsir. Týr belongs to the Æsir, the most powerful group of gods in Norse mythology. He is honored as a god of war, justice, and bravery among the Germanic peoples.

Trust and Loyalty. Týr's willingness to sacrifice his hand shows his commitment to doing what is right and necessary. Warriors and people who valued courage and honesty looked to Týr as a role model.
