Powerful palace kingdoms. Mycenaean Greece was ruled by different palace centers, with Mycenae being the most famous. Other important cities included Pylos, Tiryns, Thebes, and Athens, each controlling its own territory like mini-kingdoms.

Their own writing system. The Mycenaeans developed a writing system called Linear B to keep records and track goods. This was the earliest form of writing in Greece and shows how organized and advanced their civilization had become.
Connected across the Mediterranean. Mycenaean traders and settlers spread their influence across the Aegean Sea, to Cyprus, Asia Minor, and even to places like Italy and the Middle East. They learned from other cultures like the Minoans on Crete and shared ideas with many neighbors.
Impressive art and craftsmanship. The Mycenaeans created beautiful pottery, metalwork, and sculptures. Archaeological digs have uncovered amazing golden treasures, decorated weapons, and detailed artwork that shows how skilled their artists were.
Bronze Age builders. Mycenaean Greece lasted from around 1750 to 1050 BC and was the last great Bronze Age civilization in Greece. After it ended, Greece entered a mysterious period before the classical Greek civilization we learn about in history books began.
