Massive long neck. Omeisaurus was a sauropod, meaning it had an incredibly long neck to reach high leaves on tall trees. It was one of the biggest plant-eating dinosaurs of its time.
Named after a mountain. Scientists named this dinosaur Omeisaurus after Mount Emei in Sichuan Province, China, where its fossils were first discovered.
Lived in ancient China. Omeisaurus roamed what is now China during the Middle to Late Jurassic Period, roughly 170 to 155 million years ago.
Found in ancient rock layers. Its fossils were discovered in the lower Shaximiao Formation, which contains rocks that preserve ancient life from the Jurassic Period.
