Rainbow colors. Opahs are covered in bright blues, greens, reds, and silvers that shimmer and change depending on the light, making them some of the most colorful fish in the entire ocean.

Deep ocean dweller. These massive fish live far below the surface in the open ocean, hunting smaller fish and squid in the cold, dark depths where few other creatures can survive.

Warm-blooded fish. Unlike most fish, opahs can heat their own bodies using special muscles, which helps them stay warm in the frigid deep sea and swim faster than cold-blooded fish.

Huge and round. Opahs are enormous and shaped like a flat dinner plate, growing up to 6 feet long and weighing as much as a grown human.

Many names. People around the world call this fish by different names like moonfish, sunfish, cowfish, and kingfish, which shows how mysterious and special it is to ocean explorers everywhere.
