Panoplosaurus

Completely covered in armor. Panoplosaurus had bony plates and scutes covering almost its entire body, from large pieces on its head and neck to smaller round bones everywhere else, like wearing a suit of bony mail.

Size of a small car. This dinosaur was about 16 feet long and weighed 3,500 pounds, making it a medium-sized armoured dinosaur that walked on all four legs.

Distinctive lumpy skull. Unlike some relatives, Panoplosaurus had a short, dome-shaped snout with bumpy bony plates covering its cheeks and a very rounded top to its head.

Unique neck arrangement. Its neck was ringed with circular groups of protective plates arranged around the top surface, which set it apart from other armoured dinosaurs of its time.

Ancient Alberta resident. Panoplosaurus lived 76 to 75 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period and was first discovered in Alberta, Canada in 1917.
