Emergency responders on wheels. Paramedics work in ambulances and are trained to handle medical emergencies anywhere, anytime. They're often the first trained medical helpers to reach someone who's hurt or very sick.

Make quick decisions. Paramedics are trained to think fast and decide what treatment a patient needs right away, without waiting for a doctor's orders. They have special knowledge about how to help people in emergencies.

Work in many places. While most paramedics work in ambulances responding to emergency calls, some also help in hospitals, aid people in remote places far from cities, or even work on offshore oil rigs.

Extensive training required. Becoming a paramedic takes years of study in the medical model, which means learning how the body works and how to treat injuries and illnesses using science-based methods.

Do more than you'd think. Paramedics don't just move people to hospitals. They give medicines, perform CPR, bandage wounds, and help patients feel calm and safe during scary moments.
