Space Champion. Peggy Whitson has spent 695 days in space, more than any other American astronaut. That's like living in orbit for almost two full years.

Biochemistry Expert. Before becoming an astronaut, Whitson was a biochemistry researcher who studied how living things work at the smallest level. Her science background made her perfect for conducting experiments in space.

Leader of Astronauts. Whitson served as the 13th chief of NASA's Astronaut Office, meaning she helped lead and train other people who wanted to go to space.

Multiple Missions. Whitson didn't just go to space once. She completed several missions, spending time on the International Space Station orbiting high above Earth.

Still Exploring. After retiring from NASA in 2018, Whitson joined Axiom Space, a company working on new ways for humans to explore and work in space.
