King of hunters. The Philippine eagle has enormous talons and incredible strength, making it one of the most formidable birds of prey on Earth. It can snatch heavy animals from the forest canopy with ease.

Monkey-eating nickname. People sometimes call it the monkey-eating eagle because monkeys are one of its favorite foods, though it hunts many other forest animals too. This nickname made the eagle famous around the world.

Philippines only home. This magnificent eagle lives nowhere else on Earth except in the forests of the Philippines. It needs large, wild forests to survive, which makes it very rare and vulnerable.

Majestic appearance. The Philippine eagle has dramatic brown and white feathers, a shaggy crest of feathers on its head, and grows to be about the size of an adult human, weighing up to 18 pounds.

Critically endangered. Only a few hundred Philippine eagles remain in the wild because their forests are disappearing and they face many threats. Many people are working hard to protect this incredible bird from extinction.
