What puppets are. Puppets can look like people, animals, or creatures from imagination. A puppeteer hides behind or beneath the puppet and moves it to make it seem alive and real.
Ancient and timeless. Puppetry started way back in ancient Greece around the 5th century BC, making it one of the oldest forms of theater. It's been entertaining people for over 2,400 years.
Moved by hands or strings. Some puppets are controlled by a puppeteer's hands inside them, while others dangle from strings called marionettes. Each style creates a different kind of magic on stage.
Found everywhere. Puppet theater exists in cultures all around the world, from shadow puppets in Indonesia to traditional puppet shows in Japan and Europe.
