Sliding to change pitch. Unlike trumpets and French horns, trombones use a long telescoping slide that you push in and pull out to make different notes. It's like magic because you don't use buttons, just that smooth sliding motion.

Lips make the sound. Just like all brass instruments, you make sound by buzzing your lips inside the mouthpiece. This buzzing makes the air column inside the trombone vibrate and create those cool, deep tones.

Star of the orchestra. Trombones are famous for their warm, mellow sound in orchestras and especially in jazz bands. You'll hear them in movies, parades, and concerts, often playing the deeper supporting notes.

Mostly slides, sometimes valves. Most trombones use slides, but there's a special valve trombone that works more like a trumpet with buttons. There's even a weird hybrid called a superbone that has both a slide and valves.
