Huge ancient structure. The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest building in Teotihuacan and one of the largest ever built in Mesoamerica. It was constructed around 200 AD by people who built an amazing city in what is now Mexico.

Located on Avenue of the Dead. The pyramid stands along a famous road called the Avenue of the Dead, positioned between two other important pyramids: the Pyramid of the Moon and the Ciudadela. It sits in the heart of the city's grand ceremonial complex.

Shadowed by a mountain. The Pyramid of the Sun rests in the shadow of Cerro Gordo, a real mountain near the site. The builders chose a location where this natural landmark towers over their monument.

Part of a vast city. This pyramid wasn't built alone, it's just one piece of a huge city with many buildings and plazas. The entire Teotihuacan complex shows how organized and ambitious these ancient people were.
