Giant plant eater. Rapetosaurus was a sauropod, which means it had a long neck, walked on four thick legs, and spent all day eating plants to fuel its enormous body.
School bus sized. This dinosaur grew to about 49 feet long, roughly the length of three school buses parked end to end.
Madagascar island home. Rapetosaurus lived only on the island of Madagascar off the coast of Africa during the late Cretaceous Period, around 70 to 66 million years ago.
Only one species known. Scientists have only discovered one type of Rapetosaurus, called Rapetosaurus krausei, named after the place where its fossils were found.
End times dinosaur. Rapetosaurus lived right at the end of the Cretaceous Period, just before all dinosaurs went extinct 66 million years ago.
