They show homes. Real estate agents help people find and view houses or buildings they might want to buy. They know all about homes in their area and can tell you about the neighborhood, the price, and what makes each place special.

Licensed professionals. Real estate agents must pass a test and get a license from their state before they can sell properties. This makes sure they know the rules and treat people fairly.

Work under brokers. Most agents work for a real estate broker, who is like their boss. The broker makes sure everyone follows the law and does their job right.

Negotiate deals. Agents help buyers and sellers agree on a fair price for a property. They go back and forth between both sides to work out a deal that makes everyone happy.

Handle paperwork. When someone buys a home, there are lots of forms and documents to sign. Real estate agents organize all these papers and make sure nothing gets forgotten before the sale is complete.
