Enormous leg span. Red king crabs can grow leg spans of up to 1.8 meters (5.9 feet), making them one of the largest crabs in the world. That's about as long as a tall adult is tall!
Arctic home waters. These crabs live in the cold waters of the North Pacific Ocean and nearby seas, where the chilly temperatures suit them perfectly. They have also been introduced to the Barents Sea near Europe.
Heavily fished species. Red king crabs are so delicious and valuable that fisheries around the world target them intensively. They're considered a premium seafood catch worth serious money.
Bottom dwellers. Red king crabs live on the ocean floor in deep, cold waters where they search for food and hide in rocky areas.
