Born in the 90s. Reggaeton started in Puerto Rico in the late 1980s and early 1990s when musicians mixed reggae from Panama with their own island style. It quickly became the sound that defined Puerto Rican music worldwide.

Made for dancing. The whole point of reggaeton is to make people want to move and dance. It has a super catchy beat that makes you feel like getting up and grooving right away.

Took over the world. What started in one Caribbean island spread everywhere. Today, reggaeton artists are superstars, and you hear reggaeton songs on radio stations and at parties all across the planet.

Puerto Rico led the way. While reggaeton came from Panama's reggae influence, Puerto Rican artists became the biggest stars and shaped what reggaeton sounds like today. They made it their own and made it famous.
