Cool Facts
What it is. A trapeze is a short horizontal bar suspended by ropes or chains from the ceiling. Performers grab onto it and swing through the air, sometimes doing flips, twists, and other amazing tricks while flying.
Types of acts. Trapeze performances can be solo (one person), double (two people), triple (three people), or group acts with many performers. Some acts focus on static poses where performers hold still, while others involve spinning, swinging, or dramatic flying moves.
Circus staple. The trapeze has been a thrilling centerpiece of circus performances for over a hundred years. Audiences love watching performers soar through the air and catch each other mid-flight with perfect timing.
How it works. The bar hangs from strong ropes or metal straps attached to a sturdy support above. Performers build momentum by swinging back and forth, getting higher and higher before launching into flips or releasing to be caught by another performer.
