Valkyries

Choosers of the Slain. Valkyries flew across battlefields to decide which warriors would die and be taken to Valhalla, Odin's magnificent hall in the sky. They were powerful and fearless, and warriors considered it an honor to be chosen by them.

Servants of Heroes. Once in Valhalla, valkyries served mead (a honey drink) and food to the fallen warriors called einherjar. These warrior souls spent their time feasting, fighting, and preparing for the final battle of Ragnarök.

Connected to Animals. Valkyries often appeared with ravens, swans, boars, or wolves, which were sacred creatures in Norse culture. These animals gave them extra power and made them seem even more magical and mysterious.

Warriors and Lovers. Beyond the battlefield, valkyries sometimes fell in love with mortal heroes and kings, and some were said to be the daughters of royalty themselves. These love stories appear throughout Norse legends and sagas.

Ragnarök Preparation. When they weren't serving drinks or guiding souls, valkyries helped the einherjar train for Ragnarök, the final cataclysmic battle that Norse people believed would one day shake the entire world.
