Climbed all 14 eight-thousanders. Messner became the first person ever to reach the summit of all 14 mountains on Earth that tower above 8,000 meters high. He did this incredible feat without using supplementary oxygen, making it even more remarkable.
Everest without oxygen tanks. Messner and his partner Peter Habeler made history by climbing Mount Everest without extra oxygen in 1978. Many people thought it was impossible to reach the world's highest peak without breathing help, but they proved everyone wrong.
Solo at the top of Everest. Messner was the first climber to reach the summit of Mount Everest completely alone. He did this in 1980, showing incredible skill and determination.
Walked across frozen continents. Messner crossed both Antarctica and Greenland on foot without using snowmobiles or dog sleds. These are some of the harshest, loneliest places on Earth, yet he walked across them using only his own strength.
Traveled the Gobi Desert solo. Messner also crossed the massive Gobi Desert in Asia all by himself. He explored these distant, challenging places not just to climb mountains, but to truly understand wild landscapes.
