Joints and links. A robotic arm has connected pieces called links that are joined together by joints, which let the arm rotate or move in straight lines, just like your shoulder, elbow, and wrist.

Can be programmed. Most robotic arms are programmable, which means you can tell them exactly what movements to make by using computer instructions, so they can repeat the same task perfectly every time.

The end effector. The very tip of a robotic arm is called the end effector, and it works like a human hand by being able to grab, hold, and manipulate objects.

Part of bigger robots. A robotic arm can work by itself, or it can be one piece of a much larger and more complicated robot that does many different jobs.
