Massive mountain chain. The Rocky Mountains stretch 3,000 miles from northern Canada to New Mexico. That's like driving across the entire continent and then some.

Spans two countries. The Rockies run through both Canada and the United States, making them the largest mountain system on the North American continent.

Really, really old rocks. The Rocky Mountains are the easternmost part of the North American Cordillera, and they're different from other mountain ranges nearby like the Cascades and Sierra Nevada.

North to south journey. If you started at the northern tip in British Columbia and walked all the way to the southern end near Albuquerque, you'd cross some of the most dramatic landscapes in North America.
