Sand Cat

Tiny desert dweller. Sand cats are small wild cats that live in sandy and stony deserts far from any water. They're only about 39 to 52 centimeters long, which makes them one of the smallest wild cats around.

Sandy colored fur. Their sandy to light grey fur acts like perfect camouflage in the desert, helping them blend in with the sand and rocks so prey can't easily spot them.

Low hidden ears. Sand cats have short ears, only 5 to 7 centimeters tall, set low on the sides of their heads. This unusual ear placement helps them detect small animals moving underground.

Fuzzy desert feet. Long hair covers the bottom of their paws, acting like insulation to protect their sensitive pads from the burning hot desert sand and rocks.

Underground hunters. Those low ears and hairy paws make sand cats amazing at finding and catching animals that hide or move beneath the sand, like rodents and insects.
