Started small and walked upright. The earliest sauropodomorphs were much smaller than their famous relatives and walked on two back legs like ostriches, not on four legs like later giants.

Changed from meat to plants. Early sauropodomorphs ate meat or a mix of foods, but over millions of years they became plant-eaters with long necks perfect for reaching leaves high in the trees.

Grew to enormous sizes. The sauropods that came from this group became the largest animals that ever walked on land, with some weighing as much as 20 elephants put together.

Rocked super long necks and tails. These dinosaurs had incredibly long necks to grab food from tall trees and long tails that helped them balance their massive bodies.

Ruled for 100 million years. Sauropodomorphs dominated Earth as the biggest plant-eaters during most of the Mesozoic Era until they went extinct when the dinosaurs died out.
