Sawshark

Saw-like snout. Sawsharks have a long, flat snout edged with sharp teeth on both sides, making it look exactly like a saw. They use this special tool to slash and disable their prey in the ocean.

Ten species exist. There are ten different kinds of sawsharks, including the longnose sawshark, Japanese sawshark, and tropical sawshark. Each species lives in different parts of the world's oceans.

Hunting weapon. The sawshark's saw-like snout is perfect for hunting because it can slash through the water to injure fish and other prey. This weird snout gives sawsharks a special advantage that other sharks don't have.

Deep ocean dwellers. Many sawsharks live far below the surface in deep, dark parts of the ocean. Some species, like the African dwarf sawshark, are quite small and mysterious.

Special shark family. Sawsharks belong to their own shark order called Pristiophoriformes, which makes them different from regular sharks. Scientists think their saw-like snout evolved to help them survive in the deep sea.
