Mild onion flavor. Scallions taste much gentler and sweeter than regular onions, making them perfect for eating raw in salads or as a fresh topping on dishes.
Green stems, white roots. Unlike bulb onions, scallions have a long delicate green stem that is white near the root and no swollen bulb at the bottom.
Close allium relatives. Scallions are part of the same plant family as garlic, shallots, leeks, and chives, which all have that characteristic onion-like flavor.
Eaten raw or cooked. You can slice up the green parts for salads and sushi, or cook them into soups, stir-fries, and other hot dishes.
