Cool Facts
Brain shaped snacks. Walnuts look like tiny brains, which is probably why people joke that they're good for your thinking. The two bumpy halves of a walnut kernel kind of match the two sides of your brain.
Grown worldwide. The most common walnut we eat is called the Persian or English walnut, and it grows on trees in many countries around the globe. These trees need time to mature, but once they start producing, they can give us walnuts for decades.
Super nutritious. Walnuts are packed with healthy fats and protein that help your body grow strong and keep your brain working well. Just a small handful of walnuts can give you energy and important nutrients.
Hard protective shell. The walnut grows inside a thick, bumpy shell that protects the nut inside, kind of like nature's own hard package. You need a special nutcracker or hammer to break open the shell and get to the delicious part inside.
Trees live long. Walnut trees can live for over 100 years and keep producing nuts for most of their lives. Some walnut trees are so old and valuable that people protect them like treasures.
