Tropical home. This beautiful bird lives in tropical South America and parts of the Caribbean, making its home in warm, wet regions where it can find plenty of food.

Curved beak tool. Like other ibises, the scarlet ibis has a long, curved beak that it uses to probe through mud and water to find small creatures to eat.

National treasure. The scarlet ibis is one of the two national birds of Trinidad and Tobago, showing how important and beloved this bird is to the people who live there.

Brazilian name legacy. The Tupi-Guarani word for this bird, guará, is so special that it became part of the names of several towns and cities along Brazil's coast.
