Master horsemen. The Scythians were some of the best riders in the ancient world, traveling across huge grasslands on horseback. They moved around to find fresh pasture for their animals instead of staying in one place.
Traveled far and wide. Around the 9th to 8th century BC, Scythian peoples migrated from Central Asia all the way to the Pontic Steppe, which includes parts of modern-day Ukraine and Southern Russia. This was a journey across thousands of miles of open land.
Fierce warriors. The Scythians were known for their skill in battle, using bows and arrows while riding horses. Their nomadic lifestyle meant they were always ready to defend their territory and herds.
Ruled the steppes for centuries. The Scythians lived and dominated the Pontic Steppe from around the 8th century BC until the 3rd century BC, when they gradually disappeared. They created a unique culture suited perfectly to life on the open grasslands.
