Ocean wanderer. Silky sharks live in tropical waters all around the world and are one of the most common sharks you'll find far from shore, cruising the open ocean rather than staying near the bottom.
Silky smooth skin. This shark got its name because its skin feels incredibly smooth, like silk, which is unusual and special compared to other sharks.
Built for speed. With a sleek, slender body and long, curved pectoral fins shaped like sickles, the silky shark is designed to zoom through the water super efficiently.
Mid-sized hunter. Silky sharks typically grow to about 8 feet long, which makes them large enough to be impressive hunters but not as gigantic as great whites.
Metallic coloring. These sharks are deep bronze-gray on top and bright white on their bellies, which helps them blend in with the ocean when hunting prey below.
