Made of maple layers. Skateboards are built from 7 to 8 sheets of maple plywood glued together, which makes them strong but light. This special layering is called a deck and it curves up slightly at both ends.

Trucks hold the wheels. Trucks are the metal parts underneath the skateboard that connect the wheels and let you turn. They're connected to the deck with bolts and can be adjusted to make turning easier or harder.

Wheels made of polyurethane. Skateboard wheels are made from a bouncy plastic called polyurethane, which grips the ground and rolls smoothly. Different wheel sizes and hardness levels help skaters do different tricks or ride different surfaces.

Built for tricks and speed. The deck's curved ends give skaters something to pop for tricks like ollies and kickflips. Skateboards are designed to be light and flexible so riders can perform stunts and ride fast down hills.
