Biggest cave on Earth. Sơn Đoòng Cave in Vietnam is so enormous that it's the largest natural cave in the whole world. It's so big that a 40-story building could fit inside it!
Located in the jungle. The cave sits in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park in Quảng Trị province, Vietnam, surrounded by thick jungle and amazing limestone mountains. People didn't discover how huge it really was until fairly recently.
Underground formations. Inside Sơn Đoòng, there are massive stalagmites, underground rivers, and even sections with their own jungles where sunlight filters through holes in the ceiling. Some parts of the cave are so unexplored that scientists are still learning about what lives there.
Hard to explore. Visiting Sơn Đoòng is a serious adventure that takes several days and requires crawling through tight passages, swimming through underground rivers, and rappelling down ropes. It's one of the most challenging caves in the world to visit.
Recently discovered. While locals knew about the cave's entrance for a long time, the full extent of Sơn Đoòng wasn't properly explored and measured until 2009, when cavers realized just how massive it truly was.
