Packed with people. Hong Kong has 7.5 million people squeezed into just 1,114 square kilometers, making it the fourth-most densely populated place on Earth. That means lots of people living very close together in one amazing space.
Island and mainland mix. Hong Kong isn't just one island, it's made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories all together. These different parts combine to create one special region.
Special status region. Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China, which means it's part of China but has its own unique government and rules. It's a special place with a special arrangement.
Southern China gateway. Hong Kong sits right on China's southern coast, just south of a city called Shenzhen, making it a bridge between China and the rest of the world. Ships and travelers pass through this important harbor all the time.
