Born in Tibet. The Brahmaputra River starts high in the mountains of southwestern China, in a region called Tibet where snow and ice feed its powerful waters.

Massive water powerhouse. By itself, the Brahmaputra is the 9th largest river in the world when you measure how much water it carries, making it one of Earth's most powerful rivers.

Three countries, three names. As this river travels from China through northeastern India to Bangladesh, local people call it different names: Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet, Brahmaputra in Assam (India), and Jamuna in Bangladesh.

Incredibly long. The Brahmaputra stretches for thousands of miles, making it the 15th longest river in the entire world.

Life-giving waters. Millions of people depend on the Brahmaputra for drinking water, farming, and transportation through the fertile lands it flows through.
