Located on a peninsula. South Korea sits on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea as its neighbor to the north and water on both sides: the Yellow Sea to the west and the Sea of Japan to the east.
Mega city Seoul. About half of South Korea's 52 million people live in the Seoul metropolitan area, which is the ninth most crowded city region in the entire world.
Multiple major cities. Beyond Seoul, South Korea has other important cities like Busan, Daegu, and Incheon, each with their own bustling neighborhoods and unique character.
Official government name. The country's full official name is the Republic of Korea, or ROK for short, and it claims to be the rightful government for the entire Korean Peninsula.
