Cool Facts
Vehicles compete fiercely.. Cars, boats, planes, and motorcycles all have speed records where drivers push machines to their absolute limits. These records are officially measured and tracked so everyone knows who holds the title.
Humans race too.. People set speed records in running, swimming, and cycling by going faster than anyone has ever gone before in those sports. Sprinters can run 100 meters in under 10 seconds, which is incredibly quick.
Animals have natural speed.. Some animals are naturally super fast, like the peregrine falcon which dives at over 240 miles per hour, making it the fastest animal on Earth. Other speed champions include cheetahs on land and sailfish in the ocean.
Records get measured carefully.. Speed records need to be measured precisely with official timing equipment and witnesses so people believe the claim is real. Without proper measurement, anyone could just say they were the fastest.
Speed keeps improving.. As technology improves, vehicles get faster and athletes train better, so speed records keep getting broken and new ones get set all the time.
