Cool Facts
Stars being born fast. In a starburst galaxy, new stars are forming way faster than they do in most other galaxies. It's like watching a factory go into overdrive compared to its normal speed.
Bursts of brightness. These galaxies glow much brighter than ordinary galaxies because all those young, hot stars shine with intense light. The extra brightness can make them stand out even from far away in space.
Furious cosmic activity. Starburst galaxies are active and wild places where gravity is pulling gas clouds together so fast that countless stars ignite all at once. This frenzy of star birth might last only a few hundred million years before things calm down.
