What statisticians do. Statisticians collect information called data, organize it in smart ways, and analyze it to find patterns and answers to big questions. They might ask questions like 'Do kids in our school prefer pizza or tacos?' and then gather, count, and study the answers.

Data is everywhere. Statistics works with any kind of information you can count or measure. This could be how many students are in each grade, how tall trees grow, weather patterns in your city, or even how many goals a soccer player scores each season.

Planning comes first. Before statisticians collect any data, they plan exactly what they want to know and how to ask questions fairly. A good plan makes sure the information they gather actually answers their question.

Connected to everything. Statistics is best friends with math, science, geography, and history. Scientists use statistics to test if their experiments worked, companies use it to make products people want, and governments use it to understand their countries.

Spotting hidden truths. By studying data carefully, statisticians can discover surprising patterns that nobody noticed before. Maybe you discover that students who read more books also score higher on tests, or that summer is when ice cream shops are busiest.
