Steller's Sea Eagle

Massive fishing hunter. Steller's sea eagle is one of the heaviest eagles ever, weighing up to 22 pounds. It's built like a flying tank with powerful muscles to snatch big fish from the water.

Striking white pattern. These eagles have dark brown feathers on their body and head, but their wings and tail are bright white, making them look bold and dramatic in the sky.

Females rule. Female Steller's sea eagles are noticeably bigger and stronger than males, just like in other eagle families. The biggest females are truly enormous birds of prey.

Golden beak and talons. Their yellow beak and yellow talons look like they're made of gold, which helps them stand out among other large birds. Those sharp talons are perfect for gripping slippery fish.

Named by a naturalist. Peter Simon Pallas, a famous explorer and scientist, first described this eagle officially in 1811 after observing it in Russia.
