Sixth largest island. Sumatra is the sixth-biggest island in the entire world, bigger than most countries. It stretches across Indonesia and is packed with mountains, jungles, and volcanoes.

Home to orangutans. Sumatran rainforests are one of the last places on Earth where you can find wild orangutans, intelligent apes that live high in the trees. These forests are incredibly important for keeping these amazing animals alive.

Explosive volcanoes. Sumatra sits on the Ring of Fire, a zone where volcanoes are always active. One nearby volcano, Krakatoa, had one of the biggest explosions in recorded history.

Rainforest treasure. Sumatra's tropical rainforests are so thick and wild that scientists are still discovering new animal species there. The island is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

Endangered tigers. The Sumatran tiger, one of the world's rarest big cats, lives only on this island. There are fewer than 400 left in the wild.
