Island Group. Zanzibar is made up of many small islands and two main ones called Unguja and Pemba, sitting in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa.

Stone Town. The capital city, Zanzibar City, has a historic center called Stone Town that is so special and beautiful it's protected as a World Heritage Site, meaning it's important to the whole world.

Spice Island Fame. Zanzibar became super famous because it was the center of the spice trade, where merchants from all over the world came to buy and sell cloves, cinnamon, and other valuable spices.

Ocean Location. Being surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar has been an important trading port for hundreds of years, connecting Africa, Asia, and the Middle East through its busy harbors.
